Beneath the Planet of the Apes (1970)

Directed by Ted Post

Starring James Franciscus, Kim Hunter, Maurice Evans, Linda Harrison

Author

About as good a sequel as you could make to the classic original. Crummy story, pretty much the same thing all over again. The telepathics are goofy, the religious imagery is a bit much, and the last few minutes didn’t have enough impact for an end-of-the-world scenario. The final statement was hilarious.

Brent looked too much like Heston and wasn’t the greatest actor, either. Too handsome, too stiff, not enough personality. Good to see Heston and Nova again. He’s definitely older, Nova looked the exact same. Zaius is still cool. Some of the ape masks were awful.

Action was also pretty crummy. No music, poor choreography. Effects are horrible. How were all those underground tunnels lit up?
