Thoughts on every movie I've ever seen.

Beowulf (2007)

Directed by Robert Zemeckis

Starring Robin Wright, Anthony Hopkins, Paul Baker, John Bilezikjian

Quite an accomplishment, it seems. The CGI characters are jarring and disappointing at first, with their dead eyes and “too smooth” movement, but you get used to them.

There seems to be an argument that there is no reason to have done the entire film in CGI, and I might agree. But there are wonderful action sequences and some fantastic camera movements (Zemeckis has a knack for that), some of which could only have been done with CGI. I guess if you’re going to do a movie 50% CGI, you may as well take a chance and do the whole thing that way.

Nice cast. Glover is excellent as Grendel. So do all epic sidekicks need to look like look like Brendan Gleeson (Braveheart), and do all epic queens need to look like Robin Wright Penn (Princess Bride)?
