Thoughts on every movie I've ever seen.

Casino Royale (2006)

Directed by Martin Campbell

Starring Daniel Craig, Eva Green, Judi Dench, Jeffrey Wright

Author

A wonderful balance of action, character development, comedy, and homages to the series. Polished direction, beautiful locations, nice photography, and really sharp dialogue. The best Bond movie in recent years, maybe ever.

Craig pulls it off. He’s pretty damn cool, physically fit, and definitely more masculine than Brosnan. He marvelously delivers a few nice lines, but I would have enjoyed even more classic Bond one-liners and puns. Mikkelsen plays a great bad guy, one of the best Bond villains ever. Green is tasty.

Action sequences are very well-done. Craig’s physicality certainly helps. Strangely, I think there are some nice action shots in the trailer that are not in the movie. Nice second wind, and a classic ending.

Interesting exploration of how Bond becomes a womanizer. The story might have felt more balanced if the love story angle was played on a bit sooner. Seemed like a rushed plot point at the end of the movie.
