Thoughts on every movie I've ever seen.

Cat on a Hot Tin Roof (1958)

Directed by Richard Brooks

Starring Elizabeth Taylor, Paul Newman, Burl Ives, Jack Carson

Author

A lot of talk, but not much happens and the characters aren’t very interesting. Boring.

Newman’s a good-looking guy but a little flat. Brick is little more than a surly drunk staring at the wall holding a drink while Maggie rambles. Taylor is reminiscent of Gone With the Wind’s Vivien Leigh. She looks great but weirdly seems older than 26. Together, they are interesting co-stars, but their interactions, which are the centerpiece of the film, are missing something.

One of the first movies to take on real marriage strife and someone dying from cancer.
