Thoughts on every movie I've ever seen.

Dog Day Afternoon (1975)

Directed by Sidney Lumet

Starring Penelope Allen, Sully Boyar, John Cazale, Beulah Garrick

Author

With most of the character-driven drama taking place on a single set, it’s very theatrical. The natural, improvised dialogue is nice.

The beginning is a little strange. The bank employees awfully calm for a hold-up, and some of the lines and situation are borderline comedy, taking away from the drama of the situation. Kind of a downer of an ending.

Cazale reminds me of Martin Ferrero.
