Jeff's Reviews

Thoughts on every movie I've ever seen.

Duck Soup (1933)

Directed by Leo McCarey

Starring Groucho Marx, Harpo Marx, Chico Marx, Zeppo Marx

Author

Pretty silly overall. There are a few funny moments (the mirror scene was great), but much of the comedy is stale. Most of the gags you can see coming a mile away. The musical interludes were gay.

Groucho isn’t a very good actor. He reminds me of Jeff Schneider. He tries way too hard to get a laugh. Dumb puns and double entendre get old. He would have probably made a better stand-up comic. Silent Harpo is the funniest. I can definitely see some of Chevy’s smart-ass influence from Groucho and physical influence from Harpo.

There’s that “Popeye” theme again…
