Thoughts on every movie I've ever seen.

Every Which Way But Loose (1978)

Directed by James Fargo

Starring Clint Eastwood, Sondra Locke, Geoffrey Lewis, Beverly D'Angelo

Author

Crap story. Was the San Fernando Valley really overrun with country folk in the 70’s? How does a truck driver simpleton acquire and take care of an orangutan? Bad dialogue. Almost no comedy. Aside from some mediocre fight scenes, no action. An extremely awkward ending. Even the cheap orangutan cuteness doesn’t save it.

This was not a good time for movies. That this was this the 2nd highest grossing movie in 1978 only proves the point.

Clint Eastwood, who is tall and slender but hardly athletic-looking, has no problem taking his shirt off. That’s probably the most interesting thing about movies from this period. Actors from the late 70’s were not particularly good-looking, and it’s OK. Everyone is so un-self-conscious. A decade later, looks would be a prerequisite.
