Thoughts on every movie I've ever seen.

Friday Night Lights (2004)

Directed by Peter Berg

A pretty good sports movie about character, and an interesting look at high school football in dreary Mid-Texas. Took a while, but I found myself drawn in by the dramatic ending.

The score, unconventional for a sports movie, works. Just wish the whole movie wasn’t shot with a shaky camera and edited like a music video. There’s a definite clash between Berg’s kinetic editing with what seems to be a mellow, small-town setting for the film.

Lots of understated performances, putting the drama of the story first. That’s really nice to see. Good performances by Thornton and all the kids.

If a player of Booby’s caliber on a team this popular was injured that seriously, there’s no way a coach would let him back on the field without speaking to the doctors or, at the very least, watching him run before the big game.
