Thoughts on every movie I've ever seen.

L’avventura (1960)

Directed by Michelangelo Antonioni

Starring Gabriele Ferzetti, Monica Vitti, Lea Massari, Dominique Blanchar

Not much of an adventure at all. Once again, any movie that I find myself trying to sleep though can’t get that high a rating. I am a firm believer that film should indeed be realized as an art form, but it must also be at least entertaining enough to keep me awake. The best films combine the best of both elements. All of one and none of the other will make an unwatchable movie.

The comedy wasn’t too funny, and the drama wasn’t too dramatic. That leaves behind a flat story with the flavor of a rubber nipple. It’s basically like watching one, giant photograph for 145 minutes. What exactly is the advantage of long takes? All they do is drag out an already excruciatingly slow-moving story. Hey, I didn’t know Abe Lincoln played the violin.
