Thoughts on every movie I've ever seen.

Logan’s Run (1976)

Directed by Michael Anderson

Starring Michael York, Richard Jordan, Jenny Agutter, Roscoe Lee Browne

Author

Like a lot of movies of the period, it’s pretty obvious that the filmmakers were on drugs, or at least wanted that free-spirited attitude of the time represented in the film.

Perhaps the cheesiest visual and sound effects for the future ever. Lots of saturated colors, goofy and impractical clothing, and unchanging hairstyles help to create this stereotypical future world. Lots of dark, mildly confusing material mixed in with the future stuff that would become more common in early 80’s movies like The Black Hole and Tron. The chick computer voice was as cold and friendly as 2001’s HAL. What’s with the orgy scene?

The most interesting part was their emergence on a foreign Earth. Same feeling as Planet of the Apes. They even replaced the Statue of Liberty shot with an Abraham Lincoln shot. I guess their viewpoint across a river from Washington, DC and their walk north along the beach would put their domed cities somewhere outside of Baltimore?

York is just goofy. Odd-looking, and he’s got a strange accent. Jordan was cool, and I guess Fawcett was pretty hot, but pretty much all the characters are stale and horribly directed.

How do Logan and Jessica and everyone else manage to know nothing about human history? Why would everyone go into those domed cities in the first place?
