Thoughts on every movie I've ever seen.

Shot Caller (2017)

Directed by Ric Roman Waugh

Starring Jon Bernthal, Holt McCallany, Benjamin Bratt, Nikolaj Coster-Waldau

Takes a bit long to figure out who this guy is and what his motivations are, so it’s a bit boring at first. But it kind of picks up.

Seems like Waugh and Coster-Waldau’s trying to channel Bana’s Chopper or Hardy’s Bronson or Mikkelsen’s Pusher, but Coster-Waldau’s just not as cool. He’s a bad-ass on Game of Thrones, but he’s weak as a lead. Bernthal, Donovan, Hardwick, and Bell all deliver quality supporting performances.

Cool shot with his face covered in blood at the end. There’s that blaring alert sound effect that’s also used in Spies Like Us again. It might be the second most commonly used effect after the passing truck horn.
