Thoughts on every movie I've ever seen.

The Great White Hope (1970)

Directed by Martin Ritt

Starring James Earl Jones, Jane Alexander, Lou Gilbert, Joel Fluellen

Author

Nothing special. The beginning is a copy of The Set-Up or Body and Soul, I don’t remember which. The “slimy, two-bit, no-dick mother-grabber” line takes the cake. Wife-beating scenes don’t come very often. That silent, failed hero ending was pretty common in the 60’s.

Didn’t care much for any of the characters. Alexander was pretty ugly. Having a better looking woman in that role might have helped.
