Probably the best in the new trend of disaster movies. It’s got comedy, suspense, horror, grossness, and effects. The plot of the entire script is decent at best, but each individual scene has dramatic tension, and the action is very suspenseful and well-done. Much bloodier than Jurassic Park. Also had it’s fair share of schlock.

Good characters and a better plot would have bumped this movie into the A range for me. The characters overall were less developed than they should have been, but comsidering that it’s a horror/action/FX movie, I don’t think that’s such a big problem. In a disaster movie, you don’t even want character. You just want to see Joe Schmoe torn to shreds.

Had a great second wind, usually found in Cameron movies. We get to see a cool dinosaur kicking ass in the real world, in the tradition of Godzilla (even acknowledged in the film). We need more of that in disaster movies. All this destruction in fantasy worlds bores me. Definitely not a kids movie (a pregnant mom complained during my screening). Strikes me as odd that they marketed it for adults and kids alike.

The cast remains the same as Jurassic Park, which is good. Malcolm’s daughter was almost as annoying as the black woman in Star Trek: First Contact. And that faggy gymnastics shit was horrible.

Some nice Zemeckis-ish camera angles

That water puddle is almost as threatening as the music in Spielberg’s Jaws.
