Thoughts on every movie I've ever seen.

The Player (1992)

Directed by Robert Altman

Starring Tim Robbins, Greta Scacchi, Fred Ward, Whoopi Goldberg

Author

A nice slice of Hollywood life, and lots of fun cameos, but there’s not much to it. A bit noir-ish, but not particularly smart or funny. There is a simplicity that plagues all of Altman’s work.

That’s one long-ass tracking shot at the beginning (no aperture change when switching between indoors and outdoors?). A horror film very brightly lit. Strange feeling. Quite a bit of annoying background chatter. Nice Scream-like “cellular phone outside the house” scene. And like Scream, this film references a lot of older movies with the same storyline.

Glad to hear that Arnie’s “traffic” line in Eraser, his only funny line of the movie, was stolen right out of The Player.

What’s with the rumor that this was originally Chevy’s movie which was stolen from him?
