Thoughts on every movie I've ever seen.

The Shawshank Redemption (1994)

Directed by Frank Darabont

Starring Tim Robbins, Morgan Freeman, Bob Gunton, William Sadler

Author

One of the most cleanly told, cleanly written, cleanly edited perhaps one of the most perfectly made movies ever.

Exceptional acting by everyone. Robbins is perfect. Perhaps Freeman’s best performance. The warden and the guard are probably the two meanest men I have ever seen on film, and their terrific acting probably helped. Even that prosecuting lawyer at the beginning was awesome. Good cinematography.

Best prison movie I have ever seen, but then again how many have their been? The story reminded me a lot of Braveheart in that it is about what it really means to live and how important freedom really is to a man. I like the extra bit at the end. It felt like the movie could have ended just after he escaped from prison, but it went on as Morgan left prison. That little bit at the end (with the parole, approval, and field search) ties up all the loose ends really makes you feel like you have gotten your money’s worth.
