The Talented Mr. Ripley (1999)

Directed by Anthony Minghella

Starring Matt Damon, Gwyneth Paltrow, Jude Law, Cate Blanchett

Author

More psychotic than talented. It’s hard to root for him. But we’re treated to beautiful shots of scenic Italy throughout. Great music.

Law and Blanchett pull off American accents pretty well, but their dialogue and demeanor seems flat and unsophisticated. Was this intentional? Is this how people really were in the 1950’s? In any case, it’s an interesting contrast to the way characters from that period are usually portrayed.

Not sure about the ending.
