The franchise is starting to lose it’s lustre. Many of the same characters and actors, but let’s face it, none of the wit and charm of the first two moves. The quality writing and Chevy’s comic timing are gone.
It was around this time that a) funny scripts stopped going to Chevy, b) Chevy continues making movies with crappy scripts, and c) Chevy couldn’t reinvent himself as a dramatic actor. This was the beginning of the end of his career.
