I think they did as good as they could with a formula that’s so tired at this point.
Jordan is a good actor, and yes his physicality is impressive. Majors has a scary, wonderful mix of innocent charm and ferocity. They did a great job with the simultaneous slow reveal of his background and his rippling physique. He’s a dirty fighter, a fun angle that I’m a little surprised hasn’t been used in any of the previous Rocky movies. I love it when they make real-world references (the Rumble in the Jungle ticket) and get real celebs to make cameos, like Canelo Alvarez and Stephan A. Smith.
Training sequences with powerful themes are something we’ve grown to love from other Rocky movies, but they are lacking here. The climactic fight was a little too stylized.
