Lots of research went into the proper sequencing of events and the impressively reconstructed sets. The same authentic treatment for other German stories from war in subsequent films would be epic.
Authentic performances all around. Kudos to Ganz for pulling it off. Discounting the argument that Hitler should never be portrayed as anything less than a monster, he did an admirable job. Even Köhler’s performance as Braun felt right.
Given that authenticity of historical events was the focus, there’s not much deep, character-driven drama. It’s almost documentary-like. Given that, I could see this film not appealing to people who aren’t interested in the history.
