It’s interesting that the Italian physical ideals of the time had very little to do with the body and had more to do with the face. The main character is actually pretty cool, almost a cross between Mickey Rourke and Elvis, but he’s a bit goofy at times, probably cuz he’s a non-professional actor. But what was the deal with popping cigarettes into the mouth every other scene?
Up to this point, I had always thought that old movies had not had the concept of character development or a moving story. This movie actually had a little bit of both. I wonder what the name of that catchy song at the beginning of the singing contest was.
