This Is Spinal Tap (1984)

I get the parody, but it’s just not funny enough. You actually have to sit through the rather boring and barely existent story and wait for the funny situations and remarks to come. Guest’s later stuff was better.

Ganja Queen (2007)

Pretty moving story (or performance). Amazing that they were able to reconstruct the story without any voiceover and a minimal amount of graphic text. A lot of coverage of a case I’ve never heard of. I wonder if she did it.

The Elephant Man (1980)

Decent story about a rather interesting fellow.

Leatherheads (2008)

Pretty good feeling for the period, but nothing special. Not dramatic enough to be moving, not goofball enough to be a Coen brothers comedy.

Adventureland (2009)

Not dramatic enough for a drama, not funny enough for a comedy. The hero isn’t noble enough, the villain isn’t mean enough. Mediocre in just about every way. Captures the 80’s pretty well, though.

The Accused (1988)

Foster was a cutie. McGillis was sexy but would have been sexier if she wasn’t so militant. Heavy stuff for mainstream 1988, no?

27 Dresses (2008)

Heigl’s not bad. Marsden has the look.

Sex and the City (2008)

Underneath the superficial fashions and looks, this is a story about human nature and growth. Touching and well-made, I have to admit.

Australia (2008)

Nice little story, nice little slice of history, but the movie is epic in scale, and what’s there almost isn’t enough to carry its length. A couple of touching, dramatic moments, but all the time in between is a bit sparse. Jackman’s a stud, and the kid is wonderful.

The Graduate (1967)

A couple of awkward script/acting moments, but overall, an intelligently shot film with some really nice performances. The last moment is kind of interesting. A little more variety in the score would have been nice.
