Strike (1925)

Fast cuts, but still very long and boring. Thank God it was projected at 24 fps, cuz at 16 fps I wouldn’t have been able to take it. The silence didn’t help, either. Unfortunately, I was able to stay awake for the nauseating cow slaughtering at the end. It was…

The Freshman (1925)

A well-made, clever, simple comedy. A few really funny moments. Started a bit slow, but the comedy picked up once Lloyd became the victim. Lloyd is good with his expressions. Chevy definitely found his roots here. The music and special effects were crisp and wondeful, and really added to the…

Seven Chances (1925)

More of a basic story with special effects than a comedy. Keaton was quite an athlete. The scene with the falling rocks was really cool. Supposedly, a remake of Personal.

Emak-Bakia (1927)

Pretty much a montage of random, unfocused images. Some of them are kinda cool, though.

Kurutta ippêji (1926)

A pretty boring prison montage. Kinda different, but not too exciting. The ringing soundtrack makes me mad. In fact, the whole soundtrack sucks and is used ineffectively. Cool masks at the end.

Tramp, Tramp, Tramp (1926)

Langdon’s just not funny. The camera does a lot of staring at Langdon when he’s not doing anything. A Chaplin-wannabe. How did he even get the chance to act, much less become famous? Featuring James Cromwell as the Dad. Like The Freshman, a lot of advanced music for its time.…

It (1927)

Sexy Clara Bow was definitely a hottie. Great eyes. And a self-proclaimed nymphomaniac. If not for Drew Casper, I wouldn’t know that she slept with the entire USC football team. And she was quite a swimmer, too. An interesting social comment on single parenthood. Nice “Popeye” theme on the sailboat.…

Un Chien Andalou (1929)

That eye-cutting is nasty. And that bleeding donkey head gives the film part-membership in the Cattle Mutilation Club. A guest appearance by the Silence of the Lambs moth.
