A build from confusion to a great finish. Might have been even more horrific if it was her fetus rather than her head in the box at the end.
Fincher proves to be quite a talent at a young age. Lots of style and polish in this one. Visual style and cinematography is stylish and sharp, the score complements it perfectly. Only issue is with sound mix. In the theater and again on DVD, I found the dialogue a little hard to hear with background music and ambient noise. Pitt’s mumbling didn’t help.
Casting and acting is great. The main characters are straight out of Lethal Weapon: a psychopathic, hotshot, on-the-edge, young white cop and an older, wiser black cop who is on the verge of retirement. Freeman is predictably awesome, and Pitt is a nice counter-balance, through he mumbles too much. He’s really be something if he took a class on diction. Spacey is terrific as the villain.
