Thoughts on every movie I've ever seen.

Sketch (2024)

Directed by Seth Worley

Starring Tony Hale, D'Arcy Carden, Bianca Belle

Author

Great concept, the story of children’s drawings of monsters coming to life finally gets told. But it needed a star actor to anchor this thing. Tony Hale’s exasperation and overwhelm grows old quickly, and the kids painfully struggle through their dialogue. But it still works. One of the best horribly acted movies I’ve seen.

Surprising horror element to what is supposed to be a kids movie. Dramatically, I wonder if the same heartstrings would have been pulled if it was the dad who died and the mom who was struggling to deal with the loss. Love the retro music over the end credits. Also perhaps the first film to essentially be an ad for an app.

What made that pond magical? I imagine Sketch 2 will be all about the military applications of such a pond.
