A beautifully made film. The airy story, FX imagery, and haunting score all work together seamlessly. I’m inclined to think that this was entirely Soderbergh’s baby and that Cameron had little, if any, influence at all. I suspect Cameron truly enjoys this film because he knows he is incapable of making anything like it.
Clooney is great. Nice to see him take a part where he’s not quite on top of things. All the actors are fantactic. Davies is a bit annoying but I’m willing to put up with him to appreciate the rest of the film.
The giant credits, head-on and symmetrical photography, and spaceship lights scream Kubrik. Pretty (but motivated?) use of a graduated filter on Earth.
