Thoughts on every movie I've ever seen.

Still: A Michael J. Fox Movie (2023)

Directed by Davis Guggenheim

Starring Michael J. Fox, Davis Guggenheim, Tracy Pollan

Author

Cinematic and dramatic and personal and well-researched and meta. So interesting and beautiful to watch.

Despite the tremors, Fox has still got it. He’s charming, funny, smart, and through the tremors, he still teases us with that winning smile. The wit, clever expressions, and insights imply a playful but deep wisdom about life. But on top of all this, the disease has now imparted him with heavy doses of vulnerability and humility. It’s tragic and powerful and impressive to experience the journey Fox has taken. I’m so glad that he chose to share it while he still can.

Incredible how they were able to assemble all the archival footage with the perfect moments and the perfect lines to help tell the story. And the production value is there every moment in between, from the high-quality interviews to the well-paced family moments to the body doubles mimicking Fox’s movements

It’s too bad we didn’t get to see Fox take on really dramatic roles in his movie career. After seeing this, I think he would have been great at it.
