Fantastic action/effects and a pretty good story, if not a bit confusing for those not familiar with all of the backstories, particularly Thor’s. But it doesn’t take long to get up to speed on the characters. Through careful storytelling, their individual strengths and weaknesses are revealed in time.
Great casting and performances by all the superheroes. Downey Jr. is wonderful. Ruffalo’s understatedness is perfect, much more appropriate and Bixby-ish than the confident and comfortable performances by Bana or Norton in the previous Hulk movies. America is perhaps the most interesting of them all. Even Hiddleston was good as Loki.
The dazzling action sequences are dramatically motivated, well-shot, and wonderfully choreographed. One of the more impressive things about the movie was how effectively the action is mixed with real comedy. Downey Jr. provided the usual quips, but the Hulk stole the moment several times.
Obvious potential for sequels. I presume Thor will drag Loki home by the ear and give him a good spanking in Thor 2.
Beautiful credit sequence at the end, perhaps the best ever.
