Thoughts on every movie I've ever seen.

Directed by Martin Campbell

Starring Antonio Banderas, Anthony Hopkins, Catherine Zeta-Jones, José María de Tavira

Wouldn’t it have been great if this film was directed by Robert Rodriguez and was in Spanish with English subtitles? The fact that the only bit of real Spanish is mocked by a white guy is almost insulting.

A neat fantasy-adventure movie. The action and stunts were good. The sword-fighting was excellent, but I would have liked to see more long shots of the action instead of the quick-cut close-ups which simulate the action without letting you actually see anything.

Banderas is a good-looking guy, and Zeta-Jones is a good-looking woman. Banderas is cool, but there’s just something about the way he delivers his lines that I don’t like. Is it that he’s just a bad actor, or is it that he just doesn’t understand the nuances of the English language? Hopkins was great. They did a great job making him look young, and he looked great when he was old. Great eyes. And the old man can really move! Kind of a Star Wars-ish. Banderas is Skywalker, Hopkins is Kenobi, Zeta-Jones is Leia, Montero is Vader, and Love is the Bounty Hunter. It doesn’t work out perfectly, but it’s pretty close.

Starts off with Banderas walking into the frame and then confronting the camera, a lot like James Bond. The special effects at the beginning with the fire and the titles are wasted and annoying. The horse humor was funny. Didn’t like the music with its loud, annoying notes matched with the cuts. Loved the animatronic baby at the end.
