A biography of the early space program. It’s got adventure, romance, and tragedy. Lots of great footage and some nice effects integrated with some pretty genuine performances. Great casting. Well-made.
One of the film’s qualities is that it’s a pretty faithful, well-crafted period piece. There aren’t any hairstyles, clothes, or mannerisms which give away the period the film was shot in (a problem of most period pieces). Even today, it seems like a genuine slice of the 50’s and 60’s.
And yes, it’s long. But it works.
