An engaging but unsettling story to watch. Like “Walk the Line”, it features a main character with very few redeeming qualities who doesn’t really change for the better. We just watch him bounce around a bit, and nothing really happens.
Rourke was a good choice. He gives us a raw, courageous performance, although it’s a bit awkward watching him because we don’t really know what his motivations are. I wonder how this character compares to him in real life. Tomei looks fantastic for 45, but she gives us a similarly raw and awkward performance.
Very little score, which helps make the story seem more real. Lots of blood!
