It’s not getting great ratings, but I thought it was a quality Pixar release. Surprisingly good, with funny moments and a few sweet, tearjerking scenes.
The fire family is clearly based on a real-life, ethnic backstory. It’s not too on-the nose and successfully makes the film a little more personal.
I’m sure it was challenging concepting and designing this kind of story, but in the end, the characters and cityscapes are beautifully animated. Fun that the air characters are faithful to the clouds from Sohn’s own Partly Cloudy.
I wonder if I’m affected by seeing some of these movies with a young daughter. Not sure I was tearjerked as often when I was younger.
