Scary in an eerie sort of way. Freaky effects. A few of them were cheesy, but the film had a lot more drama than it’s remake, Independence Day. Of course it had the compulsory religious man who knows what’s best for everyone. How come they never have religious men who are wrong? It’s cool that the all-knowing priest dies early in the film. Does God save them at the end? Interesting question.
It had a lot in common with E.T.. The bacteria attacked E.T. just like it did the Martians. The Martian looked a little like E.T., and they shined the light in his eyes, scaring him to death, just like E.T.. It also had a little in common with Close Encounters of the Third Kind, such as when the aliens invaded the innocent house and terrorized its inhabitants and when the door opens at the end and a limb comes out first.
