Fun, fast-paced, emotional story. You can count on the Pixar folks for that. Brilliant animation, especially when flying around the city. The effects inside the portal were truly magical. Even Hiro’s hair was amazing.
Baymax is likable and fun, with dialogue and a voice that’s hilariously sterile and charming. Pixar’s really good at breathing life and personality to inanimate objects. And they even nail the sound effects. The squeak of the walking Baymax is wonderful.
Some of it seemed derivative, though. Baymax’s awakening reminds me a lot of WALL-E, and his red-eyed, uncontrollable military mode is out of Short Circuit or The Iron Giant. And Callaghan seems a lot like Victor von Doom from Fantastic Four. Is there a finite number of characters and storylines to choose from in these superhero stories?
Hiro as the character name and then “hero” in title of movie is a little confusing.
