Thoughts on every movie I've ever seen.

Lots of silly, light-hearted humor from Waititi, and a few giggles. But I think that making the whole thing a light comedy is a dangerous choice. One of the reasons the Marvel movies have been so well-received and successful is because there is a concerted effort to make the stories and their characters, even with all of their supernatural powers, as real and believable as possible. When you make things silly, instead of bonding with the characters, we make fun of them, and any chance of real drama goes out the window. This is why I didn’t like Guardians of the Galaxy.

And some of Waititi’s choices are just a bit awkward. The 80’s “thing” that he was going for only manifests itself in the title graphics, Mothersbaugh’s fun music that plays over the credits, and the film’s movie posters, so it just seems confusing. The “Pure Imagination” theme used in one of the scenes is jarringly recognizable.

And then there’s the complexity of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. More characters, more histories, more storylines. I just can’t keep everything straight anymore.

Nice cast and bit parts. Hemsworth’s body is incredible. He must work out. Goldblum is making fun of himself at this point. Damon’s got a fun, little cameo. He seems to do a lot of these uncredited appearances.
