The drama is there, and the tension is built wonderfully. But why, if he is so smart, has he not made anything of his life up to this point? And why is seeing a businessman get out of a fancy car enough to motivate this broke man to work an unpaid internship and sleep in bathrooms when he could have just worked at McDonald’s to make ends meet?
So much better seeing Smith suffer than it is hearing him talk about how awesome he is. His son holds his own. The chemistry between them is, predictably, very good.
Well done period piece. The dress and sets, and even the acting styles, are spot on.
