Made with way too much whimsy to take the subject matter seriously. Hardly a documentary, more a filmmaker showcasing his art and animation, shoehorning in his personal story, and showing off his Jon Snow-looking face at every opportunity.
There are clips of well-lit interviews that are momentarily interesting. Some of the speakers and their messages are quite powerful. But a lot of those shots are ruined by wardrobe and makeup assistants doing their thing or guests fumbling with water bottles and giggling at all the pretty lights and cameras or a montage of studio construction. What’s the point of all this nonsense? To be cute? Funny? Charming? If Roher is trying to distract us from any serious message, he succeeds.
The real ending was vague and aimless, only marginally better than the “fake” ending he showed for ill-advised comic relief. Really wish it ended with clear, actionable steps we can take, if he thinks this really is a problem.
One good line that didn’t make a whole lot of sense but made me laugh: “the shit’s out of the horse, but the horse is going to keep shitting.”
