I think the critics are right when they say that there’s Star Wars fatigue. There have been a lot of these freakin’ movies now, and they’re coming out pretty frequently.
To keep the momentum going, each film has to be at least as good as the last, and this one isn’t. The story ties together many of the longer-running plotlines, but aside from learning how Solo got his name, met Chewie, and won his ship, I don’t really care much about the characters.
Ehrenreich is decent, adopting some of Ford’s mannerisms and lines to make his character a little more authentic. Clarke’s just not that great. Glover’s OK as Lando, though his love affair with the droid is a little weird. L3-37 is annoying. Waller-Bridge sounds just like Gwendoline Christie.
More silly monsters making silly sounds and a constant soundtrack trying really hard to heighten the drama of every scene.
