What’s interesting in the second film of the series is that, at 14, the kids have already taken a huge step forward in intelligence but are now just starting to realize that life sucks. While all of them were more or less equally lively and optimistic as young children, they are struggling with their identities, their self-image, and their life choices. Emotional problems are, for the first time, bubbling to the surface.
Kudos to Apted for asking some gutsy questions.
