Thoughts on every movie I've ever seen.

No Country for Old Men (2007)

Directed by Ethan Coen, Joel Coen

Starring Tommy Lee Jones, Javier Bardem, Josh Brolin, Woody Harrelson

Author

With unflinching violence and little score, the no bullshit, gritty approach makes this Texas story very real and engaging. The 1980 setting, and the authenticity of it, makes things that much creepier. But not a single person in the theater thought it was going to end when it did, and I’m not sure that’s a good thing.

Brolin pulls off a nice performance. Bardem is the biggest bad-ass in recent years. Jones plays the smart, humble small-town cop reminiscent of McDormand’s character in Fargo, another Coen film.
