A Leone epic, but the length of the movie is also epic and the pacing is excruciatingly slow. I know there was controversy about how this film was cut by American studios, and cutting things out indiscriminately is not the right thing to do, but I know that there is a way to tell this story in less than 2 hours.
Great sets and costuming. It’s all believable. Morricone’s flutes and strings and chorus are anthemic but overused. When the theme is slapped over almost every scene, it starts to lose it’s magic.
Good casting of young and old characters. Connelly was adorable.
Lots of rape.
