Thoughts on every movie I've ever seen.

Lone Survivor (2013)

Directed by Peter Berg

Starring Mark Wahlberg, Taylor Kitsch, Emile Hirsch, Ben Foster

Author

One the most intense, violent, bloody movies I’ve ever seen. Up there with Saving Private Ryan, and this one might have been worse.

But it’s good. Most movies about the American military overdo the machismo and bravado to the point where it’s disingenuous and, to me, borderline offensive. But this one gives us a horrifying look and true appreciation for the experiences some of these guys really go through. The movie is a touching dedication.

Wahlberg and the others are all good. Foster is a real bad-ass. Kitsch and Hirsch look kinda similar. I’d give them an Oscar for make-up. The gore looked real, and the actors sold it well.

Two story questions. First, would they not consider the fact that they might run into civilians? Shouldn’t they have a plan for how to handle that situation? Second, why not tie them up and leave two to stand guard while the other two climb the mountain to regain communication?
