How depressing can you get? I thought my life was bad, but this is much worse. So bad, it’s funny. You have dwarves, morons, donkeys tied down so they can be stung to death by bees, goats being shot off mountaintops (which was an interesting shot, nonetheless). The horrors of life get worse and worse through the course of the film until each trial of life becomes hilarious. Perhaps the seminal mockumentary.
Those olden days people sure had a penchant for the gruesome. This film and a lot of Bunuel’s work is kinda nasty, as are a lot of other films of the period. And who can forget that elephant who got electrocuted…
