The plot’s a bit convoluted. Not sure it needed to be this complicated. The dialogue continues to be enigmatic, almost laughable at times. Interesting to see that Keanu, who clearly cannot act, did not have the use of his eyes (an actor’s most emotive tool) in the film’s most dramatic scene.
Some cool action sequences, but I couldn’t really buy into them because each scene would try to top the last. Every time Neo jumps, the shock waves are a little bit bigger, every time Agent Smith fights, he grits his teeth a little more. I found myself dismissing the action sequences as insignificant instead of seeing them as turning points in the film.
This might be the biggest problem with the whole series, in fact. No matter how hard they tried, neither of the sequels could top the plot concept or effects of the original. The plot jsut got more convoluted, the dialogue just got more enigmatic, and the effects just got more repetitive.
A bit like Return of the Jedi in that it was the last of the series, introduced some new monsters/machines, tied up most of the loose strings, and ended with a faggoty happy ending that I’m sure a lot of viewers will not be happy with. Those rickety machines and tattered clothes of their uses reminded me a bit of Mad Max. Wouldn’t surprise me if the Train Man actually came from Mad Max.
