Great idea for a movie, and really well-made. Hitchcockian in its suspenseful simplicity.

I love how small and simple and clean the story is. This is a very lean script. Every scene is functional, a set-up for something that comes later. Things are so suspenseful that some scenes are truly hard to watch. Revealing monster slowly to us was key. Loved the ending.

Krasinski’s direction is great. For someone who hasn’t done a lot of drama and no horror, it’s really impressive. Nice, simple, effective scoring.

Good performances by the small cast. For a movie to work with such a small cast, that really says something.

Some plot quibbles… Why don’t they wear shoes? Surely, there are quiet shoes with soles thick enough to prevent yelps when stepping on sticks and nails. Is it possible for any animals to have hearing that good? If they need to be that quiet in the house, maybe establish that the monsters are always right outside instead of miles away. Why do the lights flicker when the monsters are around? No comment is made about their electrical properties. Why does the hearing aid only act up when the monsters are around? A scene or two of it acting up in other scenes would have helped sell the randomness of it. And some clue about where they came from would have been nice.
