Hamm channels Chevy in expression, habit, and quick wit, but he’s not Chevy. I’m just not convinced Hamm is all that funny. Some of his dialogue feels a bit scripted and forced, and a smart-ass who is not that funny starts to get annoying.
Izzo looks like a mix of Ana de Armas and Mila Kunis. She’s pretty good. But I think it’s a subtle mistake by Mottola to let some of the other supporting actors compete with Hamm, which they do in some scenes. These Fletch movies are all just a vehicle for the main character, and you’ve got to let him carry it without distraction.
Couple of lines lifted from original, but I think a big miss was not getting the trademark Faltermeyer theme or at least some version of it. The jazzy Ocean’s 11 score is a weird substitute.
