Pretty much what you’d expect in a sequel, with Reynolds doubling down on everything that made the first movie unique. But it goes a little too far. The movie is one big joke, and Reynolds makes sure to tell us this every few minutes.
Being reminded in pretty much every scene that we’re watching a movie and that everything is fake makes it hard to get immersed in the story or care about any of the characters. On top of that, Cable is a villain but not really. The kid is a villain, but not really. If we’re going to pretend that there’s a dramatic arc here, what is it supposed to be?
Some pretty great cameos, though. And the marketing for this movie has been incredible.
