Thoughts on every movie I've ever seen.

Easy Rider (1969)

Directed by Dennis Hopper

Starring Peter Fonda, Dennis Hopper, Antonio Mendoza, Phil Spector

Author

Hey, man… Let’s ride across American and do lots of drugs, man. Lame. Idiotic cuts between scenes don’t help. Would I have apreciated this more if I lived in the 60’s?

I think this, from IMDB, explains it all:

“Hopper and Fonda did not write a full script for the movie and made most of it up as they went along. They didn’t hire a crew and instead picked up hippies at communes across the country and used friends and passersby to hold the cameras and were drunk and stoned most of the time.”

Given this, I guess the movie has value as a snapshot of 60’s culture. But that’s not enough for me. Enjoyed the ending, though. It had more to say than the rest of the movie.

Fonda has a certain presence, but he never really takes advantage of it to say anything intelligent. He is also one of thse skinniest human beings I’ve ever seen.
