The first real high school movie, with lots of edgy, refreshing sexual content. This movie would have answered a lot of questions for me when I was younger. It’s a valuable snapshot of high school life in the 80’s, but it’s not quite as witty as the John Hughes movies which would come shortly after.
An unbelievable cast of young 80’s actors. Cates truly is a dream come true. I’m surprised she didn’t have much of a career. Penn is the perfect surfer dude. Romanus looks like a young Jimmy Fallon.
Tackles teenage pregnancy the same way Caddyshack did: seriously but indirectly and awkwardly. Teenage pregnancy seems to have been a popular dramatic element in movies of the early 80’s.

Flipping through the channels and this was on. Hadn’t seen it before but couldn’t get over the fact how much Romanus looks like a young Fallon!
