Not really much to the story. These guys are in a tank and need to kill Germans. They blow shit up and people die. Is that it?
And whose journey is this? Don’s or Norman’s? Neither of their stories are compelling enough, and there’s a bit of dramatic awkwardness that comes with trying to tell them both. In particular, Norman is boring and predictable. The lunch scene with the German girls, which takes up a big chunk of the movie, did the most to develop some of these characters, but there really isn’t much else.
So we’re left with some really good shoot ’em up scenes. But that’s it. Good photography in the close quarters of the tank interior.
I do like Pitt, but I’m not sure he can carry a movie. Great hair in this one, though. LaBeouf is intense.
