An escapist delight. Visually stunning, should win at least a few Oscars for that alone. The photography, coloring, effects, costumes, and make-up are all beautiful. It all has a very steampunk, Burning Man feel. Action is non-stop and well-shot. Great stunts. Miller uses many of the same camera tricks that he used 30 years ago to great effect. This time, everything is more polished.
Hardy’s a stud. He has all of Gibson’s intensity and then some, though I would have liked to see him as a bit less brutish and a bit more human. Less lizard-eating, more talking. Theron is great as well. This is as much her story as it is Max’s. Hoult is fantastic. The girls are beautiful. Nathan Jones finally has a role and performance that isn’t completely laughable. Only thing that really bugged me was the guy playing the guitar. Why did they need to have that?
After a mostly ho-hum career, Miller comes up with this? What has he been waiting for all these years? A great new beginning for the franchise. So easy to springboard other stories from this one. I can totally see little person Quentin Kenihan hopping on one of the beefy dudes to become Master Blaster.
